Observation Narrative
Vegetation in this plot is characteristic of the dry, relatively gentle, lower slopes of Brushy Mountain above Kimberling Creek. It is an oak-hickory forest with scattered pitch pines in the canopy and conspicuous white pine regeneration in the understory. The stand is relatively young and has been subjected to historical disturbances of logging and fire. Currently, white oak is the principal canopy dominant, with scattered scarlet oak, hickories, and pines. Hickories are more abundant in the sub-canopy layers. It appears that fire has been excluded in recent decades, allowing white pine to invade the stand.
