Observation Narrative
Plot was placed in a dry oak-hickory forest on the upper slope of Brushy Mountain, just below the crest. Similar vegetation covers much of the side slope traversed by the Appalachian Trail in this area. The stand was selectively logged some decades ago. Acer rubrum is greatly prevalent in the smaller-diameter tree classes but some oak and hickory recruitment is also present. The sparsity of herbaceous cover in this stand is likely due to heavy deer grazing.
