Observation Narrative
Plot located in a mixed oak - white pine stand that covers a substantial area on the north end of the "Dragon's Tooth" ridge SW of the jct. of Rtes. 311 and 624. The overstory contains fairly large-diameter Pinus strobus, Quercus montana, Quercus velutina, and (outside plot) Quercus alba. The understory is densely stocked with young recruitment of Pinus strobus and Acer rubrum. A sprinkling of ericaceous and non-ericaceous shrubs occur in the stand but many appear to be damaged by deer browse. True herbs such as Galax urceolata are sparse.
