Observation Narrative
The habitat and vegetation are similar to FCSP018, representing an open and stunted Pinus taeda woodland on high, interior dunes. The dune habitat of this plot is somewhat more stable than than of FCSP018; as a result, Quercus virginiana is more common and a greater diversity of dune grasses occurs. Compared to more oceanward exposed dunes, this site is subject to less salt spray and more frequent drought stress. It may have been cleared of trees by anthropogenic disturbances during the heyday of settlement on False Cape, which ended about 1930.
