Observation Narrative ? Forest consisting of an open stand of tall Pinus taeda over shorter Quercus virginiana. The latter have the classic, sprawing form, with some of the lower branches spreading over the ground. This stand was recently burned in a prescribed fire (D. Loomis, pers. comm.) that scarred tree trunks but failed to remove the relatively resistent live oak leaf litter. This stand is floristically depauperate, with only eight species recorded in a 1000 square meter plot, and the herb layer has very sparse cover.
