Observation Narrative
This plot was positioned in Quercus virginiana-dominated dune scrub on a convex secondary dune just west of sand road at south end of False Cape State Park. It is similar to plots FCSP015 and FCSP017. The trees are only about 2 m tall and form large, spreading "mounds." The lee side of the dune is somewhat sheltered from salt spray and deeply shaded by the oaks, whereas the ocean side is drier and more exposed. Patches of open sand support scattered populations of Hudsonia tomentosa, Lechea maritima var. virginiana, Chrysopsis gossypina, Panicum amarum ssp. amarum, and other psammophytes.
