Observation Narrative
Plot encompasses most of a relatively dry interdunal swale that probably seldom has much standing water and is located ca. 160 m inland from the beach. The habitat is probably influenced by periodically perched groundwater and best characterized as saturated or seasonally saturated. Graminoids, including Juncus spp., Andropogon perangustatus, Panicum amarum ssp. amarulum, Spartina patens, and Eragrostis refracta, are most prevalent along with Euthamia caroliniana. Low-cover associates contribute to relatively high (for this maritime ecosystem) species richness. Woody species in this swale are limited to seedlings.
