Observation Narrative
This submesic forest is an example of the the predominant vegetation on the steeper western and southern slopes of the property. This stand is medium-aged, probably about 60 years old, and is dominated by sugar maple (Acer saccharum), occurring with northern red oak (Quercus rubra), shag bark hickory (Carya ovata), and pignut hickory (Carya glabra). Redbud (Cercis canadensis) and hophornbeam (Ostrya virginiana) are common understory trees. The herb layer is moderately rich with moderate cover.
