Observation Narrative
Plot is representative of convex facies of a slope bordering the Cowpasture River floodplain. Underlying bedrock is a thinly bedded, reddish, calcareous shale. Vegetation is a fairly rich, dry-mesic forest co-dominated by Acer nigrum and several oaks and hickories. The herb layer is fairly lush but dominated by mesophytic generalists such as Polystichum acrostichoides and Eurybia divaricata (compare with plots GWNF024 and GWNF026 from more mesic, concave slopes nearby).
