Observation Narrative
Site is a convex upper slope in the Stone Mountain massif, elevation a little over 3800 ft. Vegetation is a mixed oak forest co-dominated by Quercus rubra and Q. alba, but with poor oak recruitment and abundant Acer saccharum and A. rubrum recruitment that is now reaching the overstory. This site is rather mesic and supports a reasonable diversity of low- to moderate-cover herbs under a very open shrub layer consisting mostly of tree saplings.
