Observation Narrative
This site is a rather dry, rocky, SE-facing slope below the narrow crest of Warm Springs Mountain north of Rt. 39. Carya ovalis is more or less dominant in all tree strata, while deciduous ericads are prevalent in the low shrub layer. Several oaks co-dominant with hickory, and have decent recruitment in sub-canopy strata. There is very little Acer rubrum in the stand. Herbaceous diversity is fairly high and contributes to impressive overall species richness for such a dry, acidic site.
