Observation Narrative
This plot is located 0.5 km south of WARM005 and occupies a similar topographic position, but is not as steep and has demonstrably deeper and less rocky soil. Vegetation is a lush, medium-aged forest which regenerated after heavy cutting. Fraxinus americana and Carya ovalis co-dominate all tree layers, with scattered red and white oaks also present. Shrubs are very sparse, while the herb layer is lush with large, colonial, nutrient-demanding forbs. It appears that this stand is an example of post-logging accelerated succession, in which the advance regeneration of oak-replacement species in the understory has quickly assumed dominance following removal of the oaks.
