Observation Narrative
This plot is located on the outer part of the Stony Creek floodplain at the foot of Rocky Mountain. The hydrology of the site is uncertain; the habitat may flood briefly on rare occasions but the soil does not appear to be alluvial. In any case, flooding is not an important ecological influence, and the vegetation can be considered a mixed upland forest. The oldest trees in the stand are oaks, but much of the regeneration is of white pine, hemlock, and red maple. The stand is fairly species-rich, containing a variety of low-cover shrubs and herbs.
