Observation Narrative ? The plot is representative of seasonally flooded herbaceous vegetation covering about 0.15 ha (0.35 acre) in a pristine mountain pond. This wetland is located in a saddle on the crest of Potts Mountain and probably resulted from the sagging or subsidence of underlying sedimentary debris flows. Surrounding the open pond is a saturated, forested, sphagnous wetland equally as large or larger. In the main pond, Dulichium arundinaceum is generally dominant; Carex stricta, Scirpus ancistrochaetus, Glyceria canadensis, and Nuphar advena (in deepest portion) also form smaller dominance patches. Additional species observed included Carex canescens spp. disjuncta, Triadenum fraseri, Eleocharis obtusa, Lysimachia terrestris, Juncus subcaudatus, Fimbristylis autumnalis, and Osmunda cinnamomea. No evidence of disturbance was noted.
