Observation Narrative
Pond N105-14. This is a large woodland pond (0.6 ha) with a open canopy of Pinus taeda, Quercus phellos, and Nyssa sylvatica. Acer rubrum and Liquidambar styraciflua are common in the understory and Vaccinium shrubs are scattered. The coarse sedge, Carex joorii forms large clumps. Other common herbs are Chasmanthium laxum and Saccharum baldwinii. Much of the ground has no vegetation and is covered with litter and coarse woody debris. The shallow pond was dry at the time of survey and many oaks in and around the plot were dead.
