Observation Narrative
The plot is located in an elongate, shallow basin near the western edge of the Grafton Ponds complex. The habitat is not deeply flooded, based on the lack of clear water marks on the trees. However, it is probably shallowly flooded for parts of the year. The site was totally dry and its herbaceous component fully developed on the date of sampling. The vegetation is an open forest or woodland of Quercus phellos, Liquidambar styraciflua, and Nyssa sylvatica. The shrub layer is sparse and the herb layer is co-dominated by coarse patches of Carex joorii and Saccharum baldwinii.
