Observation Narrative
Forested seepage swamp in the bottom of a steep ravine. Although adjacent uplands are acidic, groundwater in the swamp must be moderately to strongly calcareous, based on the presence of nutrient-demanding species such as Polemonium reptans (outside plot), Lindera benzoin, Caltha palustris, Packera aurea, Viola labradorica, and Biden laevis. The state-rare herb Cardamine pratensis is scattered through the swamp, and was in full flower on the survey date.
