Observation Narrative
Plot captures a wet hardwood forest just north of and adjacent to Williamson Ditch. This is a mature forest with large oaks (Quercus michauxii, Quercus pagoda) and scattered large pines, averaging 40 - 50 cm DBH, with some approaching one meter DBH. Arundinaria gigantea ssp. tecta about 1 meter tall is dense in the shrub stratum, along with low-climbing stems of Smilax rotundifolia. The ground is covered with leaf letter and characterized as hummock and hollow topography with very wet depressions and saturated soil. The area is likely shallowly inundated by ground water for at least part of the year.
NOTE: Data for Arundinaria (herb height, covers for field stratum, cover for shrub stratum) was modified from what was written on the field form.( Field form was later corrected). The species is considered a shrub, and can have cover in multiple strata.
