Observation Narrative
Plot location is a seasonally flooded slough at the back edge of the Roanoke River floodplain, adjacent to a large bluff. This area is about 1.5 km SSE of Clover Landing and is rather difficult to access across trail-less bluffs and thickly vegetated floodplains, The sample site is more deeply flooded than the backswamp to the northwest. The trees are fairly young and even-aged. Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Acer rubrum, and Saururus cernuus attain the highest cover overall, with Fraxinus attaining the highest importance value among woody species.
0-10+cm very dense clay muck, permanent white and orange mottling
