Observation Narrative
Site is a depression along a very intermittent, non-alluvial drainage with no clearly defined stream channel. The area was dry on the date of this survey, with very hard clay soil. This seasonal wetland forest follows the drain and is quite narrow. Seasonal flooding appears to be quite shallow, leaving no clear water marks on the trees. Quercus phellos, Liquidambar styraciflua, and Acer rubrum are the characteristic trees in the stand. The shrub and herb floras are quite depauperate. The surrounding forest is Mesic Mixed Hardwood Forest with oaks, beech, and tulip-poplar, with wet depression inclusions as represented by this sample.
