Observation Narrative
This plot is similar to MNSP001 but occupies a large, discrete upland depression. Medium-sized Quercus phellos strongly dominates the forest, with a few Quercus palustris present and a scattering of small Acer rubrum and Nyssa sylvatica in the understory. Shrubs are sparse, there is little herb cover, and the ground is largely leaf litter. Several standing dead oaks were present in and around the plot. Seasonal flooding here must be short and shallow, judging from the dry condition and lack of clear water marks on the trees.
