Observation Narrative
Site is a floodplain slough/depression next to the main channel of the Blackwater River. Average maximum flooding depth, based on water marks on trees, is 70 cm above ground level. Vegetation is an old swamp forest about equally dominated by Taxodium distichum and Nyssa aquatica, and understory of Fraxinus caroliniana, and a very open herb layer consisting mostly of "draw-down" forbs. A number of the canopy trees exceed 100 cm in diameter, and the largest Taxodium exceeds 200 cm.
