Observation Narrative
This plot was sampled in the broad floodplain of Raccoon Creek. The floodplain is characterized by sandy channels, elevated terraces, and small depressions that hold water for part of the year. Bryophyte cover is a mix of Sphagnum spp., other mosses and liverworts. The surrounding uplands are managed pine forests and plantations. The forest here is dominated by Nyssa biflora but also contains Quercus laurifolia, Q. lyrata, Acer rubrum, and Liquidambar styraciflua. Shrub and herb diversity is fairly high.
