Observation Narrative
This plot is situated a forested wet depression between two areas of planted pines. It is dominated by small-diameter Nyssa biflora. There are small patches of sphagnum on the ground and moss covers the hummocks that are old stumps with Vaccinium and other shrubs sprouting from them. Fire from uplands may burn into this swale. This forest was likely cut at the time the pine was planted. Pines in the wetland are 70-80 cm in diameter.
0-4 cm leaf litter
4-14 cm roots and organic matter
14-30 cm dense gray clay with orange mottling
