Observation Narrative
Plot was sampled in the western portion of pond S105-1 (aka Snake pit pond). The sample captures the forested rim of the pond, which supports a mixed stand of Nyssa biflora, Quercus lyrata, and Liquidambar styraciflua. Most of the ground is covered by leaf litter, except for a small area where the canopy was opened from wind disturbance and herb cover has developed. The pond was completely dry on the date of this survey and the center of the pond (outside the sample) has 100% Cephalanthus mortality. Water marks on the trees show three fluctuating levels of recent flooding, ranging from 40-65 cm from the ground surface.
