Observation Narrative
This plot is located in Pond S105-10 (aka Congo Eel Pond), where T. Rawinski sampled GRAF093-097 in 1995. The plot clips the edge of this transect, and was positioned to capture only the shrubland vegetation in the lowest, central part of the wetland. This area is open and dominated by Decodon verticillatus, Cephalanthus occidentalis, and Dulichium arundinaceum. Unlike conditions at many other ponds, there is little Cephalanthus die-back here. Water marks on shrub stems are about 50 cm above the ground. The basin is much larger than the open center and the shrub vegetation grades abruptly to open or dense wetland forest on all sides.
