Observation Narrative ? The plot was located in an large depression that is part of a non-alluvial headwater stream / drainage. Although a streamhead depression, the area is functionally and actually a basin. There may be minor hydrologic alteration adjacent to a logging road crossing northeast of the sampling location. All trees are coppice-sprouted from logging several decades ago, sprouting out of the tops of old buttress / stump hummocks. The habitat appears to be seasonally flooded to about 50 cm. Herbs are somewhat diverse (for this habitat), but have sparse cover, except for Woodwardia virginica, which dominates in patches. Sphagnum moss covers large areas of the ground surface.
