Observation Narrative
This plot captures a dry, limestone forest / woodland on the brow of a slope atop a sheer cliff along the Powell River. Limestone bedrock outcrops are present, and the soil is shallow, with rock ca. 5-10 cm below the surface. Vegetation is a dry forest / woodland with Juniperus virginiana var. virginiana and scattered large oaks. The short herb layer is dominated by forbs. Thuja occidentalis becomes more common on the cliff face below plot. Yucca filamentosa is dominant just outside plot but is commonly scattered throughout stand.
