Observation Narrative
Seasonally flooded swamp forest in backswamp depression at outer edge of the Swift Creek floodplain. The habitat was still quite wet and mucky, though mostly drawn down, on the survey date. Just east of plot, standing water remained in places, despite weeks of summer drought. Dominant Acer rubrum and Fraxinus pennsylvanica trees are small, with poor recruitment. The shrub layer is very open, and the herb layer dense with Saururus cernuus and other hydrophytic forbs.
