Observation Narrative ? Plot located in an extensive upper beach / flat that covers the entire southwestern tip of Cobb Island. Surface substrate varies from mostly bare sand to nearly continuous shell deposits. Vegetation varies from sparse to patchy, with Solidago sempervirens var. sempervirens dominating slightly higher, shell-covered areas and a slightly more diverse assemblage occupying the lower sands. The plot was placed in the latter situation, where the substrate consists of bare sand or washed-up marsh detritus covered with sand. The succulent forbs Cakile edentula and Salsola kali ssp. kali are most numerous and characteristic here, although the vegetation is quite sparse.
