Observation Narrative ? Sampling site is part of an extensive dune scrub - grassland complex that occupies higher, undulating topography at the southwestern end of Cobb Island. The plot is located on a narrow, steep-sided backdune located about 120 meters from the beach and elevated 2-3 meters above the surrounding area. It supports a xerophytic grassland strongly dominated by Spartina patens, with Solidago sempervirens var. sempervirens, Triplasis purpurea, and Eragrostis spectabilis also common. As one moves toward to ocean and beach, the dunes become progressively more dominated by Panicum amarum ssp. amarum and Ammophila breviligulata. Distinct swale areas in the complex contain Myrica cerifera and hydrophytic graminoids.
