Observation Narrative ? The plot is representative of an large salt flat or salt panne located in a sandy ecotone where the edge of a maritime salt marsh meets a complex of ocean-fronting dunes. This habitat is probably flooded by both exceptionally high tides and occasional storm surge overwash; it constitutes a very slight depression where salt must accumulate through evaporation of saline surface water. The vegetation is overwhelmingly dominated by Salicornia bigelovii, although a few other species are present at very low cover.
