Observation Narrative
A small, relatively dry swale located about 400 meters inland from the beach and surrounded by low dunes and young pine woodland. The edges of this wetland are being actively invaded by Pinus taeda up to about 3 meters tall. The center of the swale is densely dominated by Panicum virgatum var. virgatum, Panicum amarum ssp. amarulum, and several species of Juncus. Over time, this narrow swale will probably become forested, as it is likely lacks enough salt spray exposure to hold back the advancing pines.
