Observation Narrative
Plot captures one of several, similar wet swales and depressions occurring within an extensive area of back-dune pine woodlands near the south end of False Cape State Park. Composition is nearly identical in all of these, consisting of mixed dominance by Spartina patens, Euthamia caroliniana, Juncus spp., Eupatorium hyssopifolium, Panicum virgatum var. virgatum, and Panicum amarum var. amarulum, with a suite of low "draw-down" species such as Centella erecta and Panicum virgatum underneath. The vegetation is very dense and hydrologic regime difficult to determine; these habitats are likely saturated year-round and periodically inundated during very wet periods and storm surges. Little sign of recent feral pig activity was seen in the sampled habitat or others nearby.
