Observation Narrative
A forested seepage wetland located in the bottom of a ravine incised into the ridge on the south side of Biscuit Run. A 13.33 x 30 m configuration was used to sample the narrow wetland but the inclusion of several hummocks supporting some mesophytic upland plants was unavoidable. Soils and groundwater here are acidic and support typical acidophilic seep species. Symplocarpus foetidus is patch-dominant in the wettest hollows.
Organic muck in braided hallows. Sample taken from low area next to mucky seep.
0-1cm litter
1-2 cm dense roots / organic matter
2+cm brownish gray silt loam, saturated
