Observation Narrative
A small, gently sloping floodplain along the north fork of the Mayo River. The forest grades to the adjacent slope that is covered with a rich Beech-Oak Forest. The upland flat area at the top of the slope has been clear-cut. The floodplain is bisected by a small power line ROW upstream of the plot. The soil is sandy on the river's edge and the ground has moss covered hummocks. This stand is very young and likely originated after abandonment of an open field or pasture. The upper canopy is open and is a mix of floodplain species, the sub canopy is dense and dominated by Carpinus. There is low coverage by non-native species.
