Observation Narrative
Shrubland zone of salt scrub adjacent to tidal marsh on one side and a maritime woodland on the other side. The site is considerably higher in elevation than the marsh and is probably flooded irregularly in storm surges. Spartina patens is dense beneath an open shrub layer that is two to four meters tall, with Iva frutescens, Baccharis halimifolia, and Myrica cerifera. Many shrubs are dead from recent storm surge and subsequent salt intrusion.
