Plot on east-facing slope above western headwaters branch of Back Creek on Allegheny Mountain, elev. ca. 3900 ft. Young to medium-age northern hardwoods, with fern-dominated herb layer. Grades into Northern Red Oak Forest on mid to upper slope above; to Oak/Heath Forest on opposite, west-facing slope; and to rich cove forest with Laportea herb layer downstream in bottom and on lower slopes.
