Plot is representative of a fairly rich, dry-mesic oak-hickory-tuliptree forest that occupies the deep-soiled upper slopes of an intricately dissected ridge area in the eastern section of Breaks Interstate Park. Although the largest overstory trees are oaks, there is little oak recruitment; sugar maple is common in the understory, with a few trees reaching the canopy, and will likely increase greatly in the future at the expense of other tree species.
