Observation Narrative
Resample of 13-year old permanent plot. Corners are now monumented with rebar stakes painted light blue.
This stand has a distinctive structure and composition which features a closed canopy of Quercus spp., Carya ovalis, and Liriodendron tulipifera; very sparse subcanopy and shrub layers; and a dense herb layer dominated by part of an extensive clone of Aralia nudicaulis. The general appearance of the plot is much the same as in 2001, but several small trees and one large Quercus rubra present then have died. The cover of Aralia seems to have decreased somewhat, and overall species richness increased from 65 to 74 taxa. Rubus phoenicolasius, while occurring at very low cover, has become established in the plot, and Microstegium vimineum is established nearby.
