There is a well used deer trail upslope from the plot and an unnamed creek approximately 50 m downslope. There are tip mounds and fallen trees in and surrounding the plot.;The canopy is mainly comprised of american beech and basswood, with sugar maple dominance in the T3 layer and scattered magnolia, beech and maple in the shrub layer. There is a large canopy gap whre a large snag has fallen. There are fire scars on the older trees. The wood nettle shows signs of deer browse.
Representativeness
Large patch of beech and basswood over sugar maple on a northwest aspect. Plot was placed to note the large trees present at the site. Area was surveyed to fill in gaps in the state wide vegetation classification for the southern coal fields.
