WMA owned by US Army COE, managed by WVDNR. Leatherwood Creek drainage is located behind a gated road. There is a small cliff band just upslope from plot. Ridge includes forest claimed to be virgin by COE and locals, sampled by plots BAIL.2-7.;Older (second growth?) forest on a steep north aspect slope. Canopy is an even mix of red oak, sugar maple, and bitternut hickory, nothing appearing dominant. There is an abundance of shrubs in the S1 and S2 layers. There are several large sandstone boulders in the plot. Fire scar on trees.

Medium sized patch of somewhat mesic deciduous forest on a cool north aspect. Plot placed to sample older forest claimed to be virgin forest.
