This pine community occurs along river left in small patches from plots BARB.13 to BARB.11. Upslope is a mixed oak forest. There are several beautiful patches of river scour prairie/ shrub prairie along this stretch of the Tygart River. Many of which we have already sampled.;A flood battered Virginia pine / sour gum woodland growing along a stretch of class III-IV white water river. The shrubs and many of the trees are bent down stream. There is flotsam hanging in most of the S1 shrubs as well as large piles of driftwood piled at the upstream bases of the larger trees. The community is growing on a high terrace of boulders located 10-15 ft above the water level at the time of the survey. Two trees were cored during the survey a T2 41 cm dbh PIVI and a S1 14 cm dbh PIVI.
Representativeness
Small patch of river scour Pinus virginiana / Nyssa sylvatica woodland very similar to plot BARB.13 as well as plots sampled at GARI and NERI. Plot was placed to sample the heavy evergreen signature. However the pine community is smaller than expected. Th
