Downslope ca. 100 m is an old rail grade trail. Below that is the Tygart River. The plot was placed in a chunk of the Pleasant Creek WMA. See plots Barb.2, 3, 4 and 7 for more context.;White oak forest growing on loose sandstone colluvium with sugar maple coming up. Colluvial rocks and boulders ranging in size from 10 cm2 to 1 m2. There is little moss growing on the smaller rocks indicating that the slope is active. Lots of windthrow pointed downhill. Although the trees appear fairly young, around 60 yrs, there is no sign of logging, no stumps or skid trails in the plot. There is a touch of Carya alba growing in the plot.
