Army Corps owned WMA centered on reservoir with RV camp sites. Nearby on more fertile soils are weedy pole sized stands of rich oak-hickory forest and stands of successional Virginia pine and tulip poplar. A patch of old growth is nearby (BEFO.2).;Near top of low ridge and head of hollow on presumably acidic soil. Forest is mixed oak with some hickory and sugar maple coming up especially on lower slopes and cooler aspects - not so much in this plot. Understory is dominated by Carex pensylvanica with patches of Vaccinium stamineum and Vaccinium pallidum.
Representativeness
Acidic oak-hickory forest of the Western Allegheny Plateau. Large patch of medium sized trees on less fertile soils hence fewer weeds than on more fertile soils nearby. Plot placed to include T2 Carya glabra. Compare to plot BEFO.2 which is an older stand
