Relatively small tract of public land managed as a WMA by the WVDNR. The primary focus of the area seems to be fishing. Much of the surrounding private land has been converted to agriculture . Downslope from the plot ~80m west is Bear Rocks Lake. Upslope to the east ~40m is private land. Interstate 70 can be heard from the plot.;Possible second growth forest of Quercus rubra-Fagus grandifolia. There is a relatively dense S1 layer mostly of sugar maple and beech. There is some deer browse on the lower shrubs and much of the forest flooer has been pawed by deer picking up acorns or hickory nuts. Much of the herbaceous layer has already begun to fade. Mayapple and sweet cicely skeletons were found throughout the plot. Perhaps there are other mid-season forbs missing from our survey.
Representativeness
Medium sized patch of mature deciduous forest. Plot was placed to sample dominance by red oak and American beech.
