Floodplain communities are most diverse and best developed on insides of river bends (point bars). On outside bends and straights they are confined to narrow scour and deposition zoness.;Backchannel wetland with a canopy strongly dominated by Betula nigra. Irregular, hummocky, microtopography with bare leaf litter in hollows and vegetation on hummocks including wetland indicators. Wetland may be primarily fed from slope seepage which is held back by a riverside levee. Some hollowed out swales held pools of water earlier in the season.
Representativeness
Narrow plot to capture small narrow small patch community. This occurrence is much less weedy compared to the river birch back channel seen downstream (obs point #4), but should probably be considered the same type.
