Upslope the mixed-meso extends at least to the cliff-band. There is a colluvial nose with hemlock and chestnut oak running parallel to this linear patch of mixed-meso. There is a bigger patch of mixed-meso with hemlock that occurs on a side slope to the east beyond the hemlock nose.;This is a steep gully bottom with a colluvial rock river and shaley residuum on an upper-middle slope positioning. The forest is mixed mesophytic with Tilia americana, Liriodendron tulipifera, Aesculus, and Acer saccharum co-dominating in the canopy. A huge wind snapped Tilia snag and its downed top is in the plot, providing a small canopy gap. The herb layer has Polystichum and Laportea conspicuous. The rock colluvium has a lush cover of mosses and Panax quinquefolia is abundant.
Representativeness
The plot is a typical mixed mesophytic forest as it occurs on concave positions on a northern slope.
