The plot is located on a moderately steep south slope on the lower third of the gorge slope. (Below the plot ia a terrace see BLUE.104) Uphill from the plot seems to get even drier with Quercus prinus. Northwest around the slope ca. 150m the forest becomes successional tulip poplar. Uphill from the plot is a cliff brake ca. 50m from plot center.;This is moderately steep slope on a dry south aspect dominated by red oak, white oak / Carya glabra, with lots of sugar maple coming up in the shrub layer. The center was placed on a small "bowl" on the slope. Here the litter has accumulated. The upper half of the plot has large patches of bare soil. There is a small calcareous looking rock shelf on the southeast aspect of the plot. The plot appears dry but rich.
