There is a successional tulip poplar white pine forest on the terrace between the back channel and the river. The Bluestone Turnpike Trail crosses this terrace. Along the river's edge is a thin Platanus occidentalis - Betula nigra / Verbesina alternifolia woodland.;The wetland is located in an old back channel of the Bluestone River along a big stagnant pool surrounded by Betula nigra. The area is very weedy. Area is likely subject to infrequent low energy floods. The pool may also be fed from upland ground seepage. The community is confined to the steep muddy banks of the pool.
Representativeness
New community type. Slow water Betula nigra wetland. Similar to community type observed by Jim at Muddlety Creek. Point was collected while surveying for early spring flora for the Bluestone Floristic Inventory. This would make a good plot site if better
